The announcement was made on Tuesday by Project Manager Mr. Kong Tao from Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CECC).

The Abuja Rail Mass Transit project valued at $823 million (N299 billion) is implemented by CECC to connect the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (Abuja) to the Central Business District. It has a length of 45 km with 12 stations and includes lots of 1A and 3. The line of the rail, which is a right side running double-track line, is built with a standard size of 1435mm.

According to Project Manager Mr. Kong Tao, the project is being undergone smoothly and expected to be tested for running in November and put into operation in December.

Once completed, the project will create a considerable number of job opportunities and promote the trade of the host regions. It contributes to enhance the economy’s development of the whole nation, bring more benefits to the society in terms of better investment environment and improvement in living standards. It also boosts the land’s value, saves energy and raises social awareness and responsibility.

However, Tao shared his concern over security and safety issues such as thieves and the poor awareness of passengers who risk to cross the rail track by ruining the safety barrier.

“Safety is the most important thing in our operation. Even though we built fence to prevent trespass, they break it to cross the rail rack,” he said.
