A new report by Gombe State FRSC claims that 94 persons have died in 301 road accidents this year in the state. This record was made public on Tuesday, October 25 by Mr Felix Theman, the Gombe FRSC commander. He gave the numbers at the inauguration of a new campaign tagged “Operation Zero Tolerance”. This newly-launched campaign is the Ember Months road safety campaign for the year 2022.

The theme for this year-ending campaign by Gombe State FRSC is “Avoid Speeding, Overloading and Unsafe Tyres to Arrive Alive”. The State FRSC commander, Mr Felix Theman disclosed that 845 people suffered varying degrees of injuries in several auto crashes this year. He noted that the majority of the auto crashes were caused by excessive speeding, faulty vehicles, overloading, wrongful overtaking and noncompliance with safe speed limits.

The Gombe State FRSC commander has confirmed that the Corps is scaling up surveillance and also patrols during this year-ending period. The exercises are targeted at ensuring optimum safety on major highways during this period. In view of this, Mr Felix Theman confirmed that additional ambulances and patrol vehicles will be deployed to major roads. Also, he revealed that Corps is training its personnel to deliver an enhanced emergency response during rescue operations. The Gombe FRSC boss noted that the Corps is more concerned about emergency rescue operations that often come up at night time. He however advised motorists to desist from driving in a hurry or getting involved in drunk driving. Also, he urged car owners to avoid using their mobile phones while driving.
