A minimum of 5 people have been confirmed dead in the most recent multiple road mishaps last Sunday close to Iyana Ipaja on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. From what we leant, among these people that lost their lives to this tragic event was a 4-year-old boy.
The fatal accident was said to be caused by the sudden appearance of a car on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway
According to reports, the first accident involved a truckload of beer and an LT bus near Pleasure Bus-stop. The truck from the eyewitnesses’ report was said to be moving at maximum speed when a car emerged suddenly on the highway from one filling station close to Abori Junction.
Shockingly, the driver of this car didn’t remember to give way to traffic or look out for oncoming vehicles despite the blaring of horns on the freeway by this truck. The truck driver decided to manoeuvre by swerving to the left side of the road in order to avoid hitting the car that suddenly appeared on the expressway. At the time when this was happening, the LT bus earlier mentioned was ascending the hill towards Iyana Ipaja.

The driver of this truck seeing another imminent danger decided to avoid the bus but ended up crashing into this bus. Afterwards, he lost control of the bus and crashed right into roadside concrete, where he crushed this boy that was just coming from Iyana Ipaja in the company of his mother. Similarly, tragedy struck as the driver of a truck conveying iron rods died in a road accident which recently happened in Lagos.
Meanwhile, here is an educational video for all road users on how to safely access and exit the highway without causing accident:

As a result of this high impact from crashing into the roadside concrete, the truck tumbled and everything on it including crates of beer was emptied onto the road. Unfortunately, a minimum of 3 people were trapped under this truck while a lifeless body was spotted lying on the road. Those rescued from the wreckage and the mother of the boy, who was also hit, were rushed by sympathizers to the nearby hospital.
With this fatal accident awaiting help from the rescue team, another road accident occurred involving a car that slowed down while descending the Iyana-Ipaja road to view the accident, clashing with oncoming vehicles. This event caused serious traffic mess, where the road users were made to drive against the traffic. The rescue team from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency was later seen with a crane at the scene of the accident.
