The new Mini will use an electric drivetrain manufactured at BMW’s plants in Dingolfing and Landshut, where the powertrain of the 5-Series and 7-Series plug-in models will also be in production line in 2021. After that, it will be shipped to Mini’s Oxford plant to be installed.

“BMW Group Plants Dingolfing and Landshut play a leading role within our global production network as the company’s global competence center for electric mobility,” according to BMW Board Member for Production Oliver Zipse. “Our adaptable production system is innovative and able to react rapidly to changing customer demand.”

By 2025, the EVs will be expected to make for 15-25% of BMW’s total sales. But frankly speaking, this figure crucially depends on regulations, incentives from authorities as well as the infrastructure. With a view to meeting the various market demands, the German carmaker has already well prepared a suitable production network. “If required, we can increase production of electric drivetrain motor components quickly and efficiently, in line with market developments,” Zipse added.
Apart from the 3-door Mini, BMW is also preparing for the world debuts of the i8 Roadster next year, the X3 EV in 2020 and beyond these; the iNext will premiere in 2021.
