We just got hold of a tragic incident that occurred recently in Niger State, where twenty-three people were killed after the truck veered off the road and somersaulted into the bush. This information was revealed by the state’s Police Command, who stated that the truck was loaded with 45 people and several cows.

One Adamu Usman, who happens to be the Commissioner of Police in Niger State, while confirming the accident last Monday to the News Agency of Nigeria at the state’s capital, disclosed that it took place along Bokani-Makera road within the Mokwa Local Government Area of the state, around 5 am.

From what he said, the truck with the number plate BBJ 666 XA was heading towards Lagos from Dadin Kowa, Kebbi State when the unfortunate event happened. Usman stated that the bodies of the deceased were taken for postmortem at the Mokwa General Hospital while those who were inflicted with varying degree of injuries were taken to the same hospital for treatment.

The police commissioner in the state revealed that the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the truck. He, however, decried the failure of motorists in adhering to the traffic rules and regulations that could have prevented most accidents on the roads. Similarly, a truck recently lost its control on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, leading to the death of a minimum of 12 people and several injured.
