Everyone here at Naijauto.com literally got blown away with the amazing life-saving technologies demonstrated by the recently unveiled 2019 Mercedes Experimental Safety vehicle.
On Monday 20th of May, 2019, the German automaker – Mercedes Benz unveiled its very latest 2019 Experimental Safety Vehicle. It’s a lot like the older versions but this one is the latest concept so far. This new 2019 ESF previews most of the life-saving technologies to be expected one day in the future cars that Mercedes would produce.

This new GLE based Mercedes-Benz Level 4 self-driving Experimental Safety Vehicle comes with a plug-in Hybrid powertrain/engine. It has its airbag located specifically in the dashboard and it comes with a padded floor, so even when the wheel is retracted, it can still successfully deploy. It even has airbags in between the occupants at the front in order to prevent any human-to-human type of contact during a car crash.

The new 2019 Mercedes ESF vehicle also comes with airbags between front occupants too
When this new 2019 ESF vehicle is in self-driving mode, its steering when and pedals automatically retract in order to reduce any risk of sustaining an injury in any case of a car crash at that moment. Whenever its robots take charge, a custom display located on the front grille of the vehicle helps communicate the car’s intentions to every other driver and/or road user at that point.
Apart from having a front grille screen, this new vehicle is also capable of projecting symbols and animations onto its rear windshield too.

When a human takes charge, the vehicle is equipped with some little touches such as sun visors which emits “daylight-like light” that keeps a driver alert when driving it.
A member of the Daimler AG Executive Board that is responsible for Mercedes Benz cars development, Ola Källenius commented on this new 2019 ESF vehicle saying;
“Safety is part of the brand DNA of Mercedes-Benz. We have repeatedly demonstrated that we are not short of ideas in this field since the 1970s, with our Experimental Safety Vehicles. The new ESF 2019 reflects the mobility of the future and presents a wide variety of innovations which we are currently researching and developing. And I can already say this much: some of the functions are very close to series production.”
Some other cool safety features in this new vehicle include;
- New safety systems specially made for kids that helps tighten up their seatbelts and also boost protection against side-impact whenever the sensors get or suggests a possible imminent problem
- A new system that notifies a driver if the kids’ seat isn’t properly installed and an additional camera to also keep watch on the kids in the vehicle’s rearward-facing seats.
- If the vehicle detects a possible rear-end collision, it is capable of automatically moving the car itself forward just before any crash, thereby giving the other driver behind some little bit extra room to actually stop his/her car without crashing into anyone.
- A featured small robot capable of emerging automatically from the vehicle’s rear end just after an accident occurs, and act as a warning triangle

Mercedes-Benz is expected to display this research vehicle soon at the June ESV convention in Eindhoven, and also later a public premiere at the September 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
