The two girls sneaked out through the basement of their family home after taking the keys to a Chevy Malibu last Wednesday morning. The 9-year-old was behind the wheel while her sister, the 4-year-old was in the passenger seat. They reportedly drove their parents’ car for 10 miles from West Jordan to West Valley City. They also used Utah's Route 201 highway.
It was the driver of the semi-truck that informed the authorities after he spotted two cars collide on the road, thinking the person behind the wheel was impaired. The semi-truck driver decided to follow the car, where he was shocked to see a child behind the wheel.

2 young girls take parents' car for joy ride
So far, the authorities couldn’t ascertain if the two children were travelling at highway speeds. Detective Scott List of the West Jordan police revealed that the girls discussed taking a trip to California to swim at the beach the previous night. The kids woke up around 3 am and their absence left their parents shocked. The idea of the beach according to Scott was brought up originally by their parents. This must have prompted the little girls to try to drive there.
Danielle LeBlanc, who happens to be a school bus driver in Salt Lake County, revealed that her regular routine usually takes her through the spot where the collision happened. When she saw the vehicle, her first reaction was to look for the girls’ parents. She stated that she was shocked when she saw the wrecked front-end of the vehicle and two girls in the front seats.
