Tragedy struck recently in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh when 14 people, including 6 children, died after attending a wedding party as their vehicle collided with a parked truck in the area. From the police’s report, the unfortunate auto crash occurred last Thursday at a spot on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway.

While 14 people were confirmed dead, few others suffered various degree of injury from the crash. Yogi Adityanath, who happens to be the UP chief minister, expressed his sadness over the auto crash and deployed senior officials to visit the scene of the accident to offer every possible help to the victims. He also disclosed a compensation fee of Rs 2 Lakh for every next of kin of those who died from the accident.

Anurag Arya, who is the superintendent of police in Pratapgarh, revealed that from their investigation, they found out that the driver of the SUV in question couldn’t spot the parked truck, ended up crashing into it. The passengers that were trapped in the SUV were rushed to the community health centre in Kunda for medical treatment. Unfortunately, 14 of them were pronounced dead on arrival.

12 of the victims were from the Jigrapur village while the 2 other people along with the driver were from a different village. The police revealed that they attended a wedding ceremony at Shekhpur village in Nawabganj area, where they got involved in the accident on their way back.

From eyewitnesses’ report, the SUV was severely damaged from the crash, making the rescue mission of those trapped victims quite difficult for the police. The families and other villagers were spotted around the health centre to support and claim the bodies of their lost ones.
