Tragedy struck recently when 14 members of 2 families were killed in a fatal road crash along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway in Mutoko, Zimbabwe. According to what we learnt, 8 of the dead bodies found at the accident scene were said to be from the Rutsito family, while the other six were from the Chitimbe family. The remaining four dead bodies are yet to be identified or linked to any family.

The ghastly road accident happened last Sunday 27th of December 2020, close to the Mutoko Business Centre, involving an Isuzu KB cab truck owned by the Rutsito family, which collided with the BMW vehicle boarded by the Chitimbe family members.

As a result, fourteen people reportedly died on the spot while four were confirmed dead by the doctor at the Mutoko Hospital after they were rushed for treatment. Mr Munyaradzi, who happens to be a member of Rutsito family, while confirmed that 8 members of his family were lost in the horrific road crash.
He expressed his sadness over the horrible event that took the life of his 39-year-old brother, Masimba Rutsito, and that of his family members. According to him, they were returning to Harare from a visit to their hometown when the accident happened. Among the 12 people in the bus with him included Audrey Mavhunga (wife), children (Malcom, Naishe and Makomborero), Simbarashe Mapuranga (uncle), Grace Madzinga (uncle’s wife) and Samuel (child). All of these people died from the accident.
The government of Zimbabwe promised to cater to the medical and burial arrangements of those involved in the crash
Among the injured ones is the family’s maid, who is currently in critical condition. He revealed that the injured ones have been transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for further treatment. Munyaradzi stated that the family hasn’t made any decision yet on the burial arrangements.
The 6 Chitimbe family members that perished with the road crash were Abigail Chitimbe (30), Major Mushumbi (7), Nyasha Chikusa (7), Ngaakudze Nkolomah (1), Sandra Kanobata (19) and Tawananyasha. According to the spokesperson for the family identified as Mr Richard Chitimbe, the burial arrangements have been completed.

According to the latest statement from one Nathan Nkomo, who happens to be the director in the Department of Civil Protection, stated that the government will help in the burial arrangements for the deceased, which is $2500 per head. The medical bills of the injured ones will also be settled by the government.
