A healthy rivalry has always existed between Nissan and Toyota, two Japanese auto manufacturing giants. This seeming bad blood was instrumental to the conceptualization of the famous Toyota Supra, which became a reality in 1978.

Let's rewind back to 1969 when one Nissan model, the Nissan Z, was giving the Toyota Celica a tough push, so Toyota needed a Celica model that will push back at the Nissan Z, which resulted in the introduction of the Toyota Celica Supra or the Celica XX.

In 1986, Toyota decided to create a new nameplate for the Supra resulting in the birth of a new standalone model, the Toyota Supra. The Toyota Supra, thus, owes much of its existence to her famous cousin the Toyota Celica especially as two of the first two generations of the Supra were sold under the Celica nameplate and shared virtually every part with its cousin with just a few exceptions.

One such difference was with the engine, of which the Celica Supra was powered by an in-line 6 cylinder water-cooled engine compared to the standard Celica's In-line 4 cylinder engine.

The Toyota Supra has enjoyed 5 production generations with the latest generation only being restarted in 2019 after production was stopped in 2002. Toyota has made sure the Supra retains its signature look right from its introduction, always sporting its famous fastback design. The current models of the Toyota Supra take a lot after the Toyota 2000GT a model that resulted from the collaborative effort between Toyota and Yamaha.

The return of the Supra got everyone excited and that was obvious in the number of the Supra sold last year in North America alone which stands at 2,884 units. Interestingly, the current generation of the Supra introduced in January of 2019, came on the heels of a collaborative effort between the German Auto giant BMW and Toyota with the two firms agreeing to base the design of the all-new Supra on BMW's two-door double seater roadster, the BMW Z4.

And here's the Toyota Supra price in Nigeria review! Enjoy!

Toyota Supra Exterior Review

The styling of the Toyota Supra is just as delicate as it gets. Remember the 5th generation Supra based on the BMW Z4 which was jointly developed by BMW and Toyota for some very important design and cost reasons.

So rather than design the reintroduced Supra from scratch, Toyota decided to build the Supra with most of the power and mechanical parts from those supplied by BMW. However, Toyota made sure to have its identity imprinted on the new car especially with its exterior design and other vehicle technology.

Toyota's touch on the exterior bears much resemblance to its 2014 concept car - the Toyota FT-1. On the outside, the Supra maintains one of its striking identities, the famous fastback design that has been synonymous with the supercar right from its revelation.

The front area sports a longnose design mainly to accommodate the In-line 6 cylinder engine which takes up a good amount of space. The front fascia maintains the perfect identity of Toyota vehicles with its sharp and shapely grilles and aggressive headlamps.

Its LED headlamps are super aggressive looking

The rear area is all about curves and contours with a very prominent spoiler sitting right on top of the boot further enhancing the hatchback design. Its double tailpipes and squinty looking rear lights give it a snorty look the Supra though comes in the hardtop coupe body style only compared to her distant cousin offers models in convertible body style.

Toyota Supra Interior and technology Review

As you already know, the Toyota Supra is built for just two persons at a time, a driver, and one front passenger, so you wouldn't expect a lot of interior space when it comes to the Supra.

However, the only occupants of the car are sure of sufficient room except for tall persons who may have difficulty sitting tall even as the 38-inch headroom is about the industry average.

On the other hand, the front legroom is certainly sufficient, even outclassing the front legroom available on the 2020 Toyota Corolla by 0.2-inch to stand at 42.2 inches.

When it comes to cargo space, the Supra is not so bad but is also not super in this area. However, you would expect that a car with a wheelbase length of less than 100-inches should have this cargo storage space issues.

Still, the Supra's 10.2 cubic-feet cargo storage capacity should be sufficient for the luggage of two persons, provided the whole house is not taken along.

You get to enjoy about 42.2-inches of front legroom

You also get features like the outside temperature display, stolen vehicle tracking technology with vehicle ignition disable, as well as a programmable garage door for easy entry to your garage, etc.

On the convenience and Infotainment side, you get to enjoy a 14-way power-adjustable heated front seat for both driver and passenger. Both front seats come in sports bucket design and both offer lumbar support. You also get to enjoy a 12-speaker JBL stereo system, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a navigation system with voice activation, as well as Bluetooth connectivity and other Automotive technologies.

Toyota Suprea Engine and Performance Review

Toyota's collaboration with BMW resulted in both automakers sharing a BMW built straight 6 cylinder engine, though Toyota made modifications to the block to suit their design thoughts.

Still, both engines offer identical power outputs with Toyota's detuned version offering a few less pony. The Supra's 3.0 Liter In-line 6 cylinder engine delivers about 335 hp with its 8-speed automatic transmission making sure the wheels receive as much as 365 lb-ft of torque when required.

A 4 cylinder base engine is expected for the 2021 Toyota Supra

To enhance the car's performance, Toyota installed several mechanical units like the Anti-lock Braking System ABS made available on all four wheels, Brembo 4-Wheel Ventilated Disc brakes with fixed caliper 4-piston and floating caliper single-piston for front and rear brakes respectively, electronic stability system with driveline/ABS traction control, as well as adaptive suspension and ride control system. These systems and units make sure you enjoy every penny put on the Supra.

On the road, the Supra is just as swift as it gets clearing the 0-62 mph lap in just about 4.4 seconds reaching a top speed of about 155 mph a solid statement in the commercial vehicles category. Its direct fuel injection system makes sure the supercar delivers combined fuel efficiency of about 30.54 mpg.
