Tesla Inc. is an electrical vehicle manufacturing company founded in the United States of America in 2003. Much later in 2004 as a result of funding needs, the now prominent co-founder and chief executive officer, Elon Musk joined the company as a financer.

Tesla manufactures all its vehicles in the company’s factory in Fremont, California where the larger parts of its vehicle components are also manufactured.

Although founded as Tesla Motors Inc., Tesla abridged its name to Tesla Inc. in 2017 to accommodate the vision of its co-founder, Elon Musk who envisions Tesla as more than an automobile company but also as a technology company.

Tesla began the sales of the Model S, Model X and Model 3 cars in March 2019. Currently, Tesla is accepting reservations from customers for its 2020 Model Y, 2020 Roadster and Semi vehicles.

2. Tesla Model S price and review

With its wide range of performance and safety features, the Tesla Model S recreated the world’s expectation of a 21st-century car. Although first launched in 2012 as an all-electric 5 door hatchback with seating for up to 7 persons, today, the 2019 Tesla Model S is a four-door sedan with seating for 5 persons.

Also, the 2019 Tesla Model S has one of the impeccable driving ranges amongst EVs. It can deliver a standard 370-mile range on a single charge. What that means is that the Tesla Model S can go a whole 370 miles (600km) after full charge before needing another charge cycle.

Although the Tesla Model S performance edition has a slightly lower range of 345 miles, both editions of the Tesla Model S have a uniform top speed of 155 miles. The Tesla Model S is equipped with a 100kWh (kilowatt-hours) lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors. It takes between 4 – 12 hours to fully recharge this 100kWh battery pack at home with a 240V power supply.

However, Tesla Inc. offers a large network of pay-per-use Tesla superchargers scattered across major cities and regularly traveled routes across America, Europe e.t.c. It takes approximately half an hour to recharge up to 170 miles with Tesla superchargers and about 1 hour and 30 minutes to fully charge.

The Tesla Model S is one of the highest-ranking luxury electric cars in the world. One of its major pros is balanced handling and increased stability owing to the weight of its battery pack which lowers its center of gravity giving it extra stability.

The Tesla Model S also boasts of a state-of-the-art interior setup for both base trim and performance trim. Some standard features present include a navigation system, a 17-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, ambient lighting, and heated interior seats.

Prior to April 2019, the 100D and P100D versions of the Model S were available but Tesla revised these kWh based versions and came up with the “Standard Range”, “Long Range” and “Performance” trim variants. However, Tesla also dropped the Standard Range leaving only the Long Range and Performance editions.

The Tesla Model X is a midsize all-electric SUV with attention capturing falcon-wing doors and possible configuration to seat up to 7 persons. Its prototype was unveiled at Tesla’s Hawthorne studio in 2012 and by 2015, the first deliveries for the Tesla Model X were already underway.

Model X ranked seventh amongst world’s best-selling plug-in-cars in 2016 and by 2018, about 110,000 units of the Tesla Model X had been sold. The Tesla Model X is 8% heavier than the Model S, although the Tesla Model X has 30% of its components dependent on the Model S framework.

As said earlier, all Tesla all-electric vehicles can recharge up to 170 miles in 30 minutes via Tesla superchargers. It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to fully recharge the Tesla Model X SUV via superchargers. At home via a 240V power supply, it takes about 4-12 hours. Tesla Model X comes standard with an all-wheel drive.

The regular Tesla Model X has an EPA rating of 96MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) combined (city/highway driving). Tesla Model X performance edition gets an EPA rating of 85MPGe. These ratings place the Tesla Model X amongst the most charge efficient all-electric vehicles in the world.

The Tesla Model X offers three seating configurations. The five-seat configuration comes standard in all Model X variants. However, six and seven-seat setups are optional configurations that come at additional costs. Regardless of seating configuration, power-adjustable front seats and heated front and rear seats come standard in the Tesla Model X. Front row seats are very comfortable and offer a wider view of the road ahead owing to its panoramic windscreen.

4. Tesla Model Y price and review

The Tesla Model Y is the newest compact crossover utility vehicle (CUV) currently under development by Tesla. Although it was unveiled in March 2019, deliveries are not slated to start until 2020.

The Tesla Model Y is expected to deliver a driving range of up to 300 miles and to accelerate 0 – 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

All expected four trims of the Model Y which include Standard Range, Long Range, Long Range with Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive, and Performance are slated for deliveries in late 2020 except for the Standard Range variant which is slated for production much later in 2021.

Just like the Tesla Model Y, the Model Z is a futuristic all-electric pickup that is still under development by Tesla. Elon Musk revealed in an on-camera interview in 2016 that there is a possibility of a pickup from Tesla. According to the Tesla CEO, it was only a logical thing to do.

Although the world knows that Tesla has set the ball rolling for the release of the Model Z, no one outside of Tesla can actually tell what the Tesla pickup would bring to the industry.
