The compact sporty car - Corvair was noticed by the executives at Chevrolet to be declining in sales due to its implemented design of a rear-engine and would not generate the kind of sales volume of the Ford Mustang at that time. So, they touted the Camaro stressing that it had the same front-engine configuration and rear-drive which were conventional to the Chevy 2 Nova and Ford Mustang.

Although it was still based on the General Motors F-body platform.

The Z28 (1981 and 1980) models came with a hood scoop for air induction. This feature had a door for an intake and when under a full throttle, this door would be opened in these models.
1.3. Third generation Camaro
Third-generation Chevrolet Camaro was rolled out from the year 1981 to 1992 (for the 1982 models). They were the 1st Camaros to feature fuel injection of modern standard, 5-speed manual transmission, Turbo Hydra-Matic (700R4) 4-speed automatic transmission, a proper OHV four-cylinder engine, hatchback bodies and 15- or 15-inch wheels. In late 2015, at the Lansing Grand River Assembly in Michigan, United States – The sales of these sixth-generation Camaros began and they were offered in SS and LT models which were all built on the GM Alpha platform. The Cadillac ATS currently uses this GM Alpha platform. Weighing 91 Kilograms (200 pounds) less than its predecessor, the 2016 Camaro became another achievement for the Chevrolet brand. Another interesting thing to note about the sixth-generation model of the Camaro is its uniqueness when it comes to its architectural components. Over a 70% of this sixth-generation Camaros do not share with any other General Motor products their architectural components. This is fascinating and makes the model special to especially it’s hardcore fans.
