The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a mid-range executive car that has so much potential to look more than a regular sedan. You can upgrade this to look the very best. See how!

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a mid-size executive car. It also falls under the luxury car category thanks to its interior and technology. The E-Class has seen 5 generations to date since it first appeared in 1953.

Inspired initially by the W110 models, the E-Class has always been one of Nigerian car buyers's favorites, from the V-Boot (1993-1995) to the Frog eyes E-Class (1996 - 2009). Also, a fun fact is that: The name Frog Eyes cuts across two generations because of the E-Class' double oval-shaped headlamps on each side, just like the eyes of a frog.

Here are all the E-Class generations till 2016

Today, I want to show you how to upgrade your Mercedes-Benz E-Class in Nigeria via a facelift and other processes to make it look more recent. It can also be done just to give it an overall makeover that makes your E-Class stand out anywhere you go with it.

I am starting with the Benz E-Class generation that can still have a good value today after being upgraded.

1. Upgrading the W211 E-Class (2003-2009) model

This car is still very much around today in Nigeria, especially the E350 trim level that features a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine with drive options of either a rear-wheel drive or the 4matic four-wheel drive. The facelift available on this car is the AMG styling upgrade.

The original AMG for this Benz model is the E63 AMG with bi-turbo V8 engines. Benz uses the Bi-turbo V8 engine as their performance class engine, the same way Volkswagen uses the VR5 with five-cylinders as performance engines for their models.

If you buy a full AMG styling body kit for this car and install, your W211 will immediately be the talk of the town for another month. Yes, it is that elegant. Make sure the AMG styling features AMG rims, or at least, aftermarket performance rims that make the car scream even when the engine is off. There are also aftermarket body kits and parts for your W211 that will make the car stand out.

Here is how an AMG facelift on the car will be

A common one is a Led Benz emblem for the front, another is a wide-body modification using fender flares. There is no need to badge your W211 an AMG if it isn't an actual AMG. That is a very misleading act and it will eventually tempt you into deceiving people it is an AMG when you want to resell or even just brag in public.

You can also upgrade your engine to the top of the regular range E550 which is a 5.5-liter V8 engine available for this car.

2. Upgrading the W212 E-Class (2010-2016) model

This E-Class would have won the most successful executive mid-size sedan in Nigeria if an award program was organized for cars in 2015. This is because it was everywhere. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2010 - 2013 looked less sporty especially because of the polygonal double headlight design.

The first face for the W212 E-Class

In 2014, Mercedes-Benz spiced the E-Class up with a facelift that made the car now appear sporty and executive at the same time.  The Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2014 has an updated front fascia that resonates well with sporty sedan car lovers and it still looks best amongst other executive cars in its category. This update immediately received a lot of action by aftermarket body kit manufacturers. There are conversion kits widely available for any Benz E-Class between 2010 and 2013 that makes the car look exactly like 2014 to the 2016 year model.

This conversion kit comes with the updated front/rear bumper, 2 headlights, 2 taillights, 2 side skirts, and quad style exhaust tips only, for the sedan. The C207 models can only be facelifted in front because they are Coupes without an updated rear fascia. There is also a convertible which makes it two body styles for the 2-door variants just like the CLK-Class and it was named the A207.

If it is not complete like this, please do not buy

Your W212 facelift gets better when you buy the AMG styling conversion kit that makes your car look aggressively sporty. It also looks lowered for a better stance either on the sedan or the station-wagon Mercedes-Benz W212 E-Class. An AMG facelift without aftermarket or actual AMG rims is actually very incomplete just so you know. This facelift actually makes your car drive better; you will feel it in the handling and stability, just how it should be with vehicles from Germany.

Complete AMG facelift, you can spot the rims too

These days, I see people fitting Panamericana Mercedes-Benz AMG GT style grilles on their W212 and I am like, "hmmm". The AMG-GT style grille with vertical accents wasn't made to fit the front bumpers of the updated W212 at all but if it looks good to you, you can go for the upgrade. I always suggest you try a rear bumper diffuser for a better-updated appearance.

Two added upgrades you can have on your W212

You can also upgrade the interior of the W212 by fitting Android multimedia screens to replace the traditional command system in the car. The Android system works exactly like your phone and with Wi-Fi connected, you will have unlimited entertainment available to you and other passengers.

Today, every car needs an android infotainment

Aftermarket headlights, taillights, side moldings are also available for the W212. To cap it all, you should look into having a befitting vinyl wrap or paint job after you facelift the car. It all depends on your budget.

Led emblems also look good at night

3. Upgrading the W213 E-Class (2017-Present) model

In 2017, Mercedes-Benz adopted a one style look for the C-Class, E-Class, and the S-Class which was very cool because they were all unique in their own way. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2017 had a double strobe in its headlight design and this set it apart from the other two Classes in appearance. The E300 even carries a 4 cylinder engine, can you imagine!?

Fuel economy is now a must to consider in every production car in the world today even with Mercedes-Benz Luxury motor vehicle manufacturers.

This E-Class looks perfect and it might seem to you like it can't be facelifted/upgraded. Well, there are a couple of upgrades that can be done while we await the availability of the updated 2020 E-Class facelift kit. That should be available from mid-2021. A facelift seems very impossible at the rear though.

So, what can you do to the W213 for now? The first thing that can be done is to give it an AMG styling; both for the body kits and the rims. Then you can also consider high-quality aftermarket modifications that can include modified headlights, bumper lips/add-ons, performance rims, modified grilles, and side skirts. A common aftermarket body kit is the one manufactured by the Brabus tuning company.

Here are 2 ranges of an upgrade from the regular W124 look

The Mercedes convertible and coupe for the w213 variant are also very excellent for upgrading. Widebody and aftermarket body kits on this car take it straight to a 100 percent perfection level.

Widebody looks so good on the W124 Coupe

Here is a little hack for the W213 E-Class; the diesel-powered variant has an amazing gas mileage that most people Benz lovers aren't informed about. If you buy the diesel variant, you can upgrade it and enjoy cheap maintenance.

A loud exhaust system for E-Class

I forgot to mention one popular upgrade that can be done on all E-Class generations I have mentioned in this article. All E-Class models can be fitted with aftermarket exhaust systems that make the car have a performance car sound. This modification is for lovers of deep sounding car exhausts that just glorify the upgraded/facelifted appearance. This present model of the E-Class has two AMG trims; the E43 and the E63s with 2.0-liter and 4.0-liter bi-turbo engines respectively.

AMG/aftermarket wheels  ₦150,000 - ₦300,000

If you don't like the calm look of the regular trims(TOP), just facelift to AMG (Bottom)

Common errors Nigerians make when upgrading a Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  • Facelifting the car and retaining regular rims on the car (it never fits).

  • Placing mismatching badges/emblems on an upgraded Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

  • Bad paint job/color schemes for finishing touch.

  • Fitting body kits without fabrication (strange gaps appear on the body lines).

Your go-to upgrade for any E-Class is the AMG body styling upgrade because it is affiliated with every Mercedes-Benz in production today. Note that aftermarket parts to upgrade your Mercedes-Benz E-Class in Nigeria involving electricals should be purchased from reputable manufacturers. It is a German car, the electricals are very complex for cheap/low budget parts when considering compatibility. I mean parts like LEDs, headlights, taillights, and others.

There are various high-quality aftermarket headlights out there

You can easily have access to the price of any Mercedes-Benz E-Class model of your choice on and you will definitely find listings that suit your budget, from brand new to tokunbo Mercedes-Benz E-Class and locally used.
