Below we will be discussing some of the signs that indicates you need to get the oil changed.

We will first recommend that you check your car’s service manual to figure out the specified interval that you should change the oil in your car. But if you are not interested in doing that, you should look out for any of these red flags that indicates you need an oil change.

1. Oil light stays on

If the oil light comes and stays on, you should address this issue as soon as you can. This is a sign that indicates either an existing issue in the mechanics of the car or simply mean the oil is due for change. In most cases especially for new vehicles, the lubricant might be the only thing you need to replace. This light could be indicating a low oil pressure or engine problem.

2. Engine making loud noise

The grinding and friction of the engine parts are prevented by lubrication of the oil. The oil can collect debris and dirt and even spread it to other parts of the engine if delay in changing it. As a matter of fact, you will even start getting tapping and clicking sound which is then a clear indicator that an oil change is needed. At some point, you may start hearing loud knocking and rapping which would be coming from the engine rods as they are knocking together in the car. You might want to quickly attend to this problem else you will be spending a ton of money later on to fix the damaged rods.

3. Dirty and dark oil

You should look under the hood of the car if you have forgotten when last you changed the oil. Take out the dipstick, clean it with a cloth, and insert it back into the cylinder of the engine. Now, pull the stick out again and check the color of the oil. You should rub it against a white paper or towel to really see the color of the oil. A fresh oil should have a yellowish-brown kind of shade as the color. As time goes on the color of the oil becomes darker and if you had left it for a long time, the color will become black. This type of black dirty oil will cause mechanical malfunction in such a car.
