Is your AC system still cooling well?
We’re in the hottest time of the year in Nigeria. However, those who own a car, luckily, can be well shielded from such harsh weather conditions by AC system. So to properly prepare your car AC system for summer, seriously take the following things into consideration.

1. Clean AC condenser
The condenser of your AC is a thin radiator like the one mounted in front of the actual radiator. Basically, it’s a heat exchange unit which is responsible for cooling down and condensing incoming refrigerant vapour into liquid. The refrigerant takes in heat when it flows through the evaporator, then the condenser discharges the absorbed heat into the atmosphere to cool the refrigerant accordingly.

Because this unit is located right in front of your vehicle, it is easy to get dirty. The condenser, like the real radiator, comes with fins to quickly exchange heat. Grime, mud, and dirt can gradually accumulate in these fins that will affect the AC performance. Therefore, having the AC condenser cleaned regularly at a car maintenance center or repair shop is strongly suggested to keep your AC working smoothly.
2. Cleaning cabin filter
Cabin filter is an important part of your car that helps catch pollen, dash and other airborne materials making your trip unpleasant. And it also needs checking out periodically (annually before extreme summers come is the best). In fact, not all filters are washable and reusable, so check the owner’s manual for the correct procedure.

Please note that the cabin filter may be absent from some cars.
3. Complete checkup
After cleaning the condenser and the cabin filter, if you’re still unsatisfied with your AC performance, visit a professional for a thorough checkup. He will check the refrigerant pressure, compressor and look at the leaks in the system as well. Besides, the AC mechanic will also clean the blower motor and heating core.
