Toyota Sienna is a special minivan for the family. It requires proper maintenance to live up to its full potentials. Check out these bespoke maintenance tips!

The fun in family transportation is incomplete without minivans. They have adequate space to accommodate everyone and more space left for cargo. With the people and items needed for a great family outing taken in the car, the fun ahead is unlimited. But like other minivans, the Toyota Sienna needs proper maintenance in order to function properly. When this goes wrong, it loses the capacity to serve the various purposes it was manufactured for.

Car maintenance is first and foremost your duty as a car owner. You may be able to afford to have someone else take care of it, but there are basic things you need to understand yourself. Otherwise, you might end up suffering too many problems with your Toyota Sienna, with no one to come to your rescue. As always, Naijauto has all the answers you need on how to properly maintain Toyota Sienna.

Routine visits to the mechanic are essential to keep your Sienna in top condition. However, you do not have to run down to the mechanic every time like a child missing his/her mother. There are basic "Do It Yourself (DIY)" maintenance tips that you can learn to help yourself out in some situations. Some of these include:

1. Regularly change engine oil and oil filter

Engine oil is one of the most important liquids your car needs. By the name, it is obvious that this oil is needed in the engine. The oil lubricates the engine, and charges it to function effectively. Experts often advice that you should have your oil changed after every 3,000 miles. But with a very good oil, you can have it changed after every 5,000 miles.

The oil filter prevents dirt from getting into the engine and ruinning things. This dirt gets stuck in the filter, and should be changed regularly.

2. Constantly check brake condition

Brake failure is a dangerous problem in cars. The basic function of the brake is to control car movement, bringing it to a stop when necessary. Obviously, when faulty, the brake is unable to perform its duty of control. Brake failure, in most cases, does not happen overnight. There are often signs that are overlooked by car owners. If you notice that the brake has become slower than it used to be, it is a sign that it is wearing out. Do not ignore it. Check it thoroughly, and take it to the mechanic for further inspection.

3. Rotate and replace tires as recommended

When tires are newly changed, they are not meant to remain in their fixed position for so long. Given the nature of cars, more pressure is exerted on the front side, hence, front tires wear out faster than those at the back. To prevent your car from having an unstable balance, rotate the tire from time to time, preferably every 5,000 miles. Do not be mean to the front tires; let the back ones feel the heat too.

4. Replace spark plugs

Spark plugs are not to be used on your Toyota Sienna non-stop. They are meant to be replaced after every 30,000 miles. But to be on the safer side, check your owner’s manual to be sure of the recommended time.

The plugs are not so difficult to change. Yes, a mechanic can do it easily, but you can also do it yourself, if you take the time to learn it. If you notice a clapping sound from your car, it could be a misfiring due to faulty spark plugs.

5. Change other fluids regularly

Besides the engine oil, there are other fluids such as the transmission fluid and engine coolant. These substances should be monitored and changed in your Sienna from time to time, to prevent them from drying out completely or getting overly old.

6. Check battery

The battery in the Toyota Sienna is one of the key elements that keep it running as smoothly as it does. When the battery is neglected, the fun ride you enjoy will be cut short. Merely taking a close look at your battery will open your eyes to existing problems.
