The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has activated five 'Safe Corridors' out of the 18 safe corridors partitioned in the country. This is in a bid to limit road traffic accidents across the 36 states in the country.
1. What is a safe corridor?
A safe corridor is a highway segment which adopts hightened driver education and stricter traffic law implementation.
A road can be converted to safe corridor if there're signs of serious accidents, high number of traffic violators and similar crimes related.

2. List of 5 safe corridors activated by FRSC to reduce road crashes in Nigeria
Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, FRSC Corps Marshal, made the announcement at a workshop put together for commanding officers and their newly promoted personnel in Abuja. He listed 5 critical safe corridors among 18 corridors throughout the country, which include Lagos - Ibadan - Egbeda - Ife and Abuja Metropolitan. The last one targets at the Abuja airport road which connects the city gate to Giri.
Naijauto gathered that Corps Marshal Oyeyemi gave the reason for the activation of the safe corridors. He said it was owing to the execution of the World Bank-Assisted Safe Corridor project.
Oyeyemi mentioned that FRSC has a model with the rank of route commanders and officers were being posted to specific routes. However, it hasn't been implemented until recently.
He added that the corridor commanders will be discharging their duties as a special squad that will see to the sustenance of corps visibility.

They are to ensure that obstructions are properly removed as well as ensure that the personnel are doing what is expected of them
The activation is a resulf of World Bank-Assisted Safe Corridor project

He also charged the senior personnel to live up to expectation by coming up with a new strategy on how they operate for maximum results.

We have challenges in the field. We need to reduce road traffic crashes.
We must not allow overloading to overwhelm us. We must do everything possible to check this
Corps Marshal Opeyemi also charged the sector commanders to ensure they develop a close working relationship with the present elected governors across the 36 states.
