A good number of Nigerians always got to see car racing and cool cars on TV while growing up and it was certain then that you will never come across events like that here in Nigeria. Happy to announce to you that things have changed, all thanks to Lagos and Abuja car lovers for writing the history of car racing and car events in Nigeria. Car shows and events are getting popular in Nigeria because some set of people are making a deliberate effort to make it happen.
All these cars are Mercedes-Benz
The most popular luxury car brand in Nigeria is Mercedes-Benz, which is currently battling with Lexus, for that spot and for the first time in Lagos, a group of Mercedes-Benz lovers planned to organize a drive-by event in the heart of Lagos. You needed to see how Mercedes-Benz cars took over Lagos; the first-ever Benz drive-by in Lagos. I wish you came to witness it live!

The scheduled date was December 6th 2020 and I had the privilege of attending the event with my camera. It was also where the "What do you do for a living; Nigerian Luxury Car Edition" happened that eventually became a viral video on social media. See the video below:
The meet-up location for the drive-by was at Mo-Town Autos in VI and the take-off was scheduled for 4 pm. The short route was from VI to Eko Atlantic and back to VI because the traffic situation in Lagos these days due to road repairs here and there would not allow for a long drive by route.

The cars that graced the event in no particular order; two units of 2020 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG worth about ₦90,000,000 each, three Mercedes-Benz E350 W212, a rare CLK55 AMG, A 2018 S560 Maybach Mercedes-Benz, a notorious 2017 Brabus 760, the only one in Nigeria, three Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupes and one GLE SUV.
The beautiful Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe
The drive was fun to Eko Atlantic entrance where access was denied due to heavy construction going on. It won't have been safe for cars to drive through so the location changed to the Lekki-Ikoyi Link bridge where everyone parked to have a chit chat while pictures and videos were being taken because of the beautiful site of the bridge. You know how the pictures would come out clean on the bridge.
The moment the cars were leaving Eko Atlantic
It was on the drive that I started the "What do you do for a living video" because I had a good feeling that everyone there would answer appropriately. I know you expected Nigerians not to answer questions like that but when people drive out mad cars, it is expected that they show it off easily.
A couple of Benz cars that came for the drive
The day ended like a party with drinks and food while everyone had conversations about Mercedes-Benz and other cars. Other cars tried to steal the event like a ZL1 Chevrolet Camaro and a modified Lexus RCF.
I know you are wondering what the advantages of events like this are to the country and individuals. Just so you know, Motorsports is the most expensive sports industry in the world right now and every country that has motorsports in its economy enjoys a lot of boom. Lewis Hamilton is the most paid sportsman in the world and this is because he drives a car for a living.
Motorsports growth in Nigeria will attract world tourists and help our economy rise up better and faster.
Conclusion
Above is all about how Mercedes-Benz cars took over Lagos; the first-ever Benz drive-by in Lagos and you have. I am sure you want to own a Mercedes-Benz so much that you can join the next drive-by that will happen in Lagos.
