Mercedes-Benz may have stolen the hearts of every Nigerian luxury car lover including you. Can you remember how they did that? it was just by producing cars that had technology and quality that you were not used to from regular everyday cars like Honda and Toyota.

Ever wondered why Nigerians love Mercedes a lot? Mercedes-Benz gives you the assurance that when you buy their cars, you have bought the best thing ever and the whole of Nigeria would automatically start respecting you. This is one major difference between owning a Benz vs BMW in Nigeria.

Mercedes-Benz line up looks sharp

However, do not be disappointed by what we would be talking about today.

Following our series of the worst cars from brands, we would be showing you the 7 Mercedes-Benz worst cars you can buy and own in Nigeria because they have some certain problems that make them disqualified as a Mercedes-Benz in some important areas.

This article is going to discover them.

What should a Mercedes-Benz feel like?

A Mercedes-Benz is a luxury vehicle brand meaning the company makes cars with upscale materials that allow drivers and passengers to enjoy a certain level of 'home feeling' while in the car. They achieve this by using quality leather to build the car and good materials all around to reduce road noise.

Quality shock-absorbing mechanism and driving stability allow you to attain high speeds without experiencing and weird feeling like the car losing balance or grip on the road.

A Mercedes-Benz does not promise you fuel economy or affordable maintenance because its parts are not as much in circulation like other cars and the price is expected to be more expensive.

Lastly, a Mercedes-Benz should give you a high level of social status in a typical Nigerian society because of its looks and technology which is why Nigerian slay queens love to buy some particular Benz models to pepper their haters.

What are the 7 worst Mercedes-Benz you can buy?

GL450 the Air suspension crooner

The 2011 Mercedes-Benz GL450 is just unlucky to be the worst Mercedes-Benz car from the GL series that ran between 2006 and 2012 before getting replaced by the GLS class.

One of the biggest issues these cars faced in Nigeria was the air suspension it is equipped with. I still saw an unbalanced GL450 on the road in this new year because the air suspension was having issues.

Air suspension comes with a lot of problems

Owners of the GL450 spend a lot of money replacing the balloons on the suspension and sometimes convert it to springs which makes the car uncomfortable to drive.

Apart from this, the car also has mechanical issues from the transmission to the engine and brakes. If you can avoid buying this car, please do.

The 2002 Mercedes-Benz Vaneo was Mercedes' try at creating a Toyota Sienna but it did not come out well. A lot of Benz lovers believe this car is ugly even though it was a luxury minivan.

That ugly Mercedes Benz van!

It did not have any appeal of a luxury van and it was also ugly from its appearance. It was also very weak in structure. I doubt more than 20 Nigerians bought this car.

3. 2002 MERCEDES-BENZ S500

The 2002 Mercedes-Benz S500 is a car you will see abandoned in a lot of Mercedes-Benz workshops around Nigeria because it gave owners a headache all the time.

Its V8 engine was unreliable and was always having electrical problems that lead to battery drainage and disfunction of many features on the car.

Also, there was an issue with the airmatic suspension. It often leaked and costs a lot of money to replace in Nigeria. The S500 also had an issue of rust in the wheel arches, boot lids and suspension related parts.

The next one in the list of Mercedes-Benz worst cars is the first generation of the A-Class, which was launched in 1997. It sure does not look like a Mercedes-Benz. Use your mind to take out the logo and you will see what we mean.

It was meant to be a family car and smaller than the average car but things did not go as Mercedes-Benz planned.

The looks of the car ruined the reputation of the car even before sales started. This gave the competitors a chance to beat Mercedes to a small-sized family car.

The weird-looking A-Class Mercedes-Benz

The interior also did not feel like a Benz at all, thankfully Mercedes-Benz revamped the A-Class in 2013 and gave us what a true small-sized Benz should look like.

The car also lacks a traditional Mercedes-Benz's balance and stability. It even flipped during a test done by some Swedish car journalists. You must have heard a lot of times that Mercedes-Benz does not flip and this is exactly why the first A-Class is amongst the worst Mercedes-Benz cars ever made.

Does this look like a Benz to you?

The Mercesdes CLA is undoubtedly is one of the best looking Mercedes-Benz cars ever made but it is on the list of the worst Mercedes-Benz ever because it was inspired by Japanese rivals like Toyota and Honda.

Beautiful CLA!

The Mercedes-Benz CLA was the first front-wheel-drive Mercedes-Bez sedan and this is awkward. Every other Mercedes-Benz is either a rear-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive.

The car does not drive and feel like a Benz at all. If you drove the CLA as your first Benz you would be wondering why Mercedes-Bemz is the king of luxury cars in Nigeria. The build quality is also poor compared to a regular Benz. Hard plastic is used instead of leather materials and this just did not make sense to Mercedes-Benz enthusiast.

The CLA does not have any technical issues but it just defies the point of a Mercedes-Benz then it is not still as cheap as its main rivals. This car should be the same price as a Honda Civic or a Toyota Corolla but Mercedes-Benz did not make it that way.

6. 1999 MERCEDES-BENZ ML-Class

In 1999, Mercedes-Benz released a beautiful looking family SUV at the time in the name of an ML. The ML320 was the most popular in Nigeria and it had a lot of potentialities to be a special car but it was just from the looks. The structure suffered from weaknesses.

Remember this SUV from the early 2000s

It has a bad reputation for not being a reliable car, which is extended throughout the generation of the ML models from 1999 to 2005.

Some common problems the car has includes ABS lights, the transmission getting stuck in gear a lot, the transfer cases' failure, power steering problems, door lock's failure to respond over time, engine misfires and other serious issues.

Dashboard lights like Christmas lights

You will see many Nigerians with this car just getting consoled by the fact that it is a Mercedes-Benz as they spend money week in week out on the car. Always remember the ML320 for being amongst the worst Mercedes-Benz cars ever made.

7. 2007 Mercedes-Benz R500

The R-Class remains one of the most unique looking Mercedes-Benz till date as it had the shape of a van but still maintained the characteristics of a regular sedan and was as big as an SUV. Call it the 3 in 1 vehicle that had a lot of unreliability issues with the engine and suspension.

The 3 in 1 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

The car sold well because of its looks but once customers discovered its persistent engine issues, the sales dropped. Mercedes could not keep producing the car all over the world in 2014. The car is still being produced in China today.

The interior is big!
